According to Instagram posts from Travis and Matt, the new blink album has been mastered! This means the album should be more or less complete.
A release date of April 26th for a song titled “Bored to Death” popped up on All Access a couple days ago, although the posts has since been removed. Members of r/blink182 pointed out the song title is indeed on a song progress board spotted in the background of an in the studio photo from a while back (second from the top, “BRD 2 DTH”), adding validity to the All Access listing.
The fact that the album is now done, the listing has been removed, and the bio of blink social media accounts have all changed to “NEW MUSIC COMING SOON!” may indicate something might drop even sooner than that!
In an interview with Billboard yesterday, Mark discussed his involvement with scoring the upcoming short film titled “I’m Scared”. Toward the end of the interview, a small paragraph stated the following:
In the meantime, Hoppus continues with Blink-182. He said the threesome — with Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba replacing guitarist Tom DeLonge — will head back into the studio in August.
Last we heard, Skiba was open to joining the band, but nothing had been planned as Mark and Travis still had to sort out the legality of moving forward without Tom. There’s still no word on the status of that, but it does appear Matt is now an official member and the three of them will begin work on an album very soon!
“Blink-182 is undeniably one of the most significant groups in pop-punk history. Recently, the “trio” gained quite a large amount of press attention as frontman Tom DeLonge was declared no longer a part of the band. The group are currently set to perform at the final day of the Musink festival with Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba as Delonge’s replacement. You can click here to view the entire lineup and more info for the event. We recently spoke to Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker about Tom DeLonge’s departure, his upcoming tattoo convention/music festival, and the future of the band. Check out Alternative Nation’s exclusive interview below.”
Travis Barker stopped by The Kevin & Bean Show to talk about the upcoming Musink Festival, the situation with Tom DeLonge, and future of Blink-182.
“It’s kind of a different situation. We had agreed to do this show [Musink], we had planned this in November, or maybe even the end of October. We had all agreed to do it. It was concrete, Blink was headlining Sunday night and the day before New Year’s Eve we got an email saying ‘Tom indefinitely is taking a leave of absence for he doesn’t know how long, it could be forever. More than likely it’s forever and will not be doing anything Blink-related meaning live shows and recordings.”
“This is exactly how it went down 10 years ago too. No phone call from Tom, it was always his management just says ‘Don’t bug Tom, Tom’s out. Leave him alone,’” explained Barker. “It comes to the point where you can’t make anybody do anything.”
“I’m a more confrontational person. I’d rather talk to the source and work it out, figure it out. I don’t like playing tennis – you say this, I say that. It’s childish. That’s for like Housewives of Atlanta.”
“He’s [DeLonge] absolutely still my friend, it’s just he doesn’t want to play in a band. It’s like a chick. You’re not gonna make a chick that says ‘Hey I don’t want to see you indefinitely and I don’t know how long, I might not want to see you forever.’ You’re not going to be like ‘You get over here. You play with me right now.’ You need to give her her space, you need to let her go live… and it’s the same thing.”
“I juggle a lot of things outside of Blink. I record with tons of different artists, and I always seem to still know how to prioritize Blink. I still love Blink and it’s my #1 priority over everything that I do. But it’s like when you don’t have the same passion to make that your priority as well, it makes it hard to come together as 3 people when one person doesn’t care about it.”
“To all the fans, I never quit the band. I actually was on a phone call about a blink 182 event for New York City at the time all these weird press releases started coming in… Apparently those releases were ‘sanctioned’ from the band. Are we dysfunctional- yes. But, Christ…..”
It seems as though Matt Skiba will only be filling in for blink’s upcoming shows, and Tom is still with the band. No official clarification has been made at the moment but we’ll update as soon as there is.
